Stop Letting Fear Rule Your Life and Kill Your Dreams!
Jim Carrey – Now, fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much. So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it. I’m saying I’m the proof that you can ask the universe for it. Please.
My father could’ve been a great comedian, but he didn’t believe that that was possible for him, and so he made a conservative choice. Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant. And when I was 12 years old, he was let go from that safe job, and our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father. Not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.
Jason Katzenback – How powerful is that? You can fail at what you don’t want, so you may as well take a chance at doing what you love. Let that sink in for a moment.
Jim’s father wanted to be a comedian. But instead, he allowed his fear to tell him the practical thing to do was that being an accountant would be safer. In the end, however, he ended up losing his job and putting himself and his family in a worse position than what he originally feared. Don’t let the word safe be confused with happy.
It might feel safe to stay in your own lane, not push the boundaries, and tell yourself to be realistic. But are you truly being realistic with yourself, or are you letting your fear take the wheel? If you’re sitting there being held back from doing something you love that could dramatically change your life for the better because it’s not practical, you need to grab a hold of that thought, tear off its disguise, and look at it for what it truly is, an excuse to feel safe.
There are no guarantees in life, and there’s no such thing as a safe job. Our lives are meant to be lived fully. And the only thing you have any real control on are the decisions you make right now. Fear is always gonna play a big part in your decisions, but it’s never an excuse to not pursue a life that makes you happy. So as Jim said, you can fail at what you don’t want, so you may as well take a chance at doing what you love. So please, take a chance and start doing what you love now.
