We’re talking hundreds of billions, people. Now, here’s a look at the average sales figures for Amazon sellers (according to JungleScout): | **Monthly Sales** | **Percent of Sellers** | | --- | --- | | < $500 | 22% | | $501-$1,000 | 13% | | $1,001 – $5,000 | 27% | | $5,001 – $10,000 | 13% | | $10,001 – $25,000 | 10% | | $25,001 – $50,000 | 8% | | $50,001 – $100,000 | 4% | | $100,001 – $250,000 | 1% | | *Don’t know* | *3%* | According to this data, about 60% of Amazon sellers earn up to $5,000 per month in sales. But at the same time … **MORE than a third of Amazon sellers make MORE than $5,000 each month in sales.** Now let’s look at the average number of hours Amazon sellers spend each week on their businesses (again, according to Jungle Scout): | **Number of Hours** | **Percent of Sellers** | | --- | --- | | < 4 | 16% | | 4 – 10 | 28% | | 11 – 20 | 20% | | 21 – 30 | 13% | | 31 – 40 | 12% | | 41 – 50 | 6% | | 51 – 60 | 3% | | > 60 | 4% | More than 60% of Amazon sellers spend less than 20 hours a week on their business. Only 12% work a full forty hours a week. So … let’s do a little math here to figure out how much money Amazon sellers can earn in the least amount of time. About 60% of sellers make up to $5,000 a month in sales, and about 60% of sellers work less than 20 hours a week. We will assume then that an average seller can make $5,000 in 20 hours of work each week (or $62.50 per hour). If you’re a super seller, it’s possible to make $25,000 a month in 20 hours of work each week (or $312.50 per hour). To take things a step further, let’s say you’re a top-tier seller. **If you earn $250,000 each month in sales, working 20 hours per week, that’s $3,125 per hour.** *You’d be hard pressed to find an office job that pays that well …* So! Now that we’ve established that selling on Amazon truly unlocks unlimited earning potential, let’s talk about how most sellers get started. ## **How much money does it take to start selling on Amazon?** More than 80% of Amazon sellers used their own money to launch their business. The rest of them borrowed from loved ones, banks, or creditors. But … how much money do sellers spend on average to launch an Amazon business? Let’s find out! | **Money Spent** | **Percent of Sellers** | | --- | --- | | < $500 | 17% | | $501-$1,000 | 15% | | $1,001 – $2,500 | 19% | | $2,501 – $5,000 | 19% | | $5,001 – $10,000 | 16% | | > $10,000 | 13% | | *Don’t know* | *2%* | The vast majority of sellers spent less than $5,000 to launch, and about a third spent less than $1,000.
