This is David!

My name's David, and I created amazing.com to help make you more creative and connect with other people.

I hope you enjoy amazing.com, and feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions about our site and its workings.

We are now testing the caching features of profiles. This is additional testing of the caching.

We are continuing to test amazing.com.

this is a new bit of text to add to my profile.

Improving the look of amazing.com
This is a ebffeb world.

All this week, I am concentrating on making things look better on amazing.com. The main problem with it, in my view, has been its somewhat amateurish appearance. While that may seem appropriate with me being no graphic design pro, it bothered my partner Bill.

He would yell and scream at me over my appearance, calling me and it all sorts of names.

And the unfortunate truth is that he was, and is, right. I am not good at making things look nice. I do a really great job at making them work well and have a nice feel to them, but beauty is not a big strength of mine.

Unfortunately.

So all this week I have been burying myself in books trying to give my project the elusive look it really needs to be a hit

This is a test blog which I'm hoping will reset the profile cache.

Reset the Cache!

This should do it.

Caching is starting to work!

I didn't expect to do profile caching so early, but I thought up what seemed like a very nice, simple scheme for it and so I decided to give it a try.

If it works, saving this message should clear the cache automatically so that the next time it's pulled up it will show the new information on the blog.

Will it work?

We'll see!

What got done today

Here's a summary:

  • I worked on various cosmetic issues surrounding the blogs and messages and straightened out many of them.

  • I created a RSS (real simple syndication) feed system for blogs and communities. Non-open blogs or communities are not given RSS feeds. (It might be possible to offer them using the "hidden URL" recipe).

  • I debugged a problem with the signup and verified that the basic signup process works. I worked on the overall cosmetic appearance and operation of the signup.

  • I brainstormed a schedule for the week and a goal for what I wanted to accomplish.

  • I considered ways that the drag and drop moving of profile blocks would work and got an example working using the community list. It looks like single column lists are easy but multi-column lists are much harder.

  • You can now rearrange your communities so that your favorite ones are on top. You cannot do this with friends because they are in two columns; that's the next project.

  • Myspace has the top 8 friends. I think I should try for the top 20. Let's see how that works when we actually try the Ajax drag and drop arrangement.
