Even I knew about Alex and saw some of her remarkable videos. Amazing stuff. And now he's gone :-(

Yes, it would appear that he died of a heart attack. It's very sad -- he was a very special bird.

She lived a long and interesting life. I am sorry to see her go, but the research lives on.

Did you see the picture of Sandy's African Grey?

Yes, Sandy's grey is very pretty! I stepped on Joey's tail tonight and he lost a lot of tail feathers. I feel just terrible about it. He's been on the floor a lot more, and I need to pay better attention. Or keep him off the floor.

Keeping him off the floor sounds like a more likely solution.

How long will it take for him to regrow the feathers?

I'm not sure how long it will take for him to re-grow his feathers... he hasn't seemed to notice that they are gone.

He has been chewing up a box that is on the floor -- part of nesting behaviour. I usually don't encourage that kind of thing, but his beak gets overgrown and he really needs to chew more. I may try moving the box to his playstand.

What's wrong with nesting behaviour?

It prolongs breeding season, which makes birds aggressive and difficult to get along with. Joey is a good bird and I don't want to start any patterns of difficulty with him.

Coco, you may remember, went crazy during breeding season and injured several birds. I didn't handle it right, and now he is confined to his cage. Actually, I don't know how I could have handled it -- confining him to his cage earlier would have saved some toenails on other birds... There is a very fine balance that you have to acheive to be a good bird person. Breeding season tests all of that to the max.
